Don't speak
Don't shout
Don't even whisper
I know what you're capable of
How many times have you been led away
With naught but a slap on the wrist
Let off with a warning
How many times will you get away with murder
They always start young it seems
What made you think I wouldn't notice
That something is amiss
What hurts the most is the knowing
The clueless understanding
I'll never recover what I lost
Is what makes me burn inside
How dare you
How could you
Over and over I berate myself
I could replace what I lost
Somehow it doesn't make me content
Because I knew I could've prevented it
Now I can only grieve
Optimism isn't strong enough
Only my self-control fetters me

A little piece I wrote after something important of mine was taken. It really upset me, especially considering I could have prevented it easily. I still sort of beat myself up about it.
